HealthTeacher
HealthTeacher is provided as a free gift to K-12 students in 5 north Alabama counties.
In December 2008, Huntsville Hospital Foundation teamed up with HealthTeacher to offer this innovative, comprehensive online health education curriculum. The Foundation’s goal for the outreach program is to change the health habits of today’s youth. The program addresses important health topics including community and environmental health, physical activity, mental and emotional health and more, through a variety of lesson plans. Sarah Toth, the HealthTeacher education coordinator for north Alabama, visits local schools every day helping teachers, counselors and administrators to utilize the program.
HealthTeacher:
- Provides teachers with lesson plans, interactive tools, background information, and letters to parents related to all of the health topics taught
- Meets state and national standards, as well as the No Child Left Behind requirements, and addresses the Centers for Disease Control's suggested topics
- Includes well-organized lesson plans and resources; there is no research or planning required
- Integrates lessons seamlessly with other academic areas such as science, math, and even language arts

Heritage Elementary second grade teacher, Leah Igo, utilizes HealthTeacher lessons in creative and innovative ways. She is pictured with her students, and Heritage Elementary principal, Dr. Lydia Davenport, with NewsChannel 19 anchor, Lisa Washington.

Who's Using HealthTeacher?
“The information found within this website is more beneficial to me than any other resource that I have found. The updates and news articles are very helpful. In my opinion, Healthteacher.com is better than the textbooks we use.”
- Coach Ryan Smith, Asbury High School in Albertville
“HealthTeacher is a wonderful resource because it teaches a variety of topics at every grade level. I really like the posters too. They're eye-catching...I have them up all over the school. I appreciate Huntsville Hospital Foundation because of its community support. The key to success is getting the community involved.”
- Matt Stiles, Counselor, Sparkman School
“HealthTeacher is user-friendly, and requires no extra planning. It's a one-stop shop! I've recently taught social skills and the drug and alcohol lessons. I really like that HealthTeacher gives so much background information because one of the biggest challenges in teaching health is to get the students to believe the credibility of what I'm teaching. HealthTeacher gives the facts.”
- Christine Adams, counselor, Liberty Middle School and Discovery School Patriot Academy
